How does the word counter count words?
Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace. Any sequence of non-whitespace characters separated by spaces, tabs, or line breaks counts as one word.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute, which is a common average for adult readers. The result is rounded up to the nearest minute.
Does this tool count characters with or without spaces?
Both. The tool shows total character count including spaces and a separate count excluding spaces so you can use whichever metric you need.
Does the word counter work with non-English text?
Yes. The counter splits on whitespace regardless of language, so it works correctly with Hindi, Arabic, French, and other scripts. Note that languages without spaces between words (such as Chinese or Japanese) may not produce accurate word counts.
Can I use this to check content for SEO or social media limits?
Yes. Most social media platforms and SEO tools impose character or word limits — for example, Twitter allows 280 characters, meta descriptions are typically 150–160 characters, and blog post titles perform best under 60 characters. Paste your content and compare the count to your target limit.
