About this tool

There is no single exchange rate between two currencies at any given moment. The interbank rate — the one financial news quotes — is what large institutions trade at, and it is not available to you. What you actually pay depends on who you are converting with: a bank typically adds two to four percent as a spread on the rate before adding any explicit fee, an airport bureau considerably more, and card networks apply their own rate plus a foreign transaction fee. The published mid-market rate is the honest reference point against which to judge those offers, not a price you will be quoted. This converter uses rates published by the European Central Bank via the Frankfurter API. The ECB publishes reference rates once per banking day, around 16:00 CET, so figures reflect that daily fix rather than a live market feed and do not update at weekends or on Eurosystem holidays. That precision is right for estimates, invoices, expense reports, and budgeting, and wrong for anything where an intraday movement matters. Rates are fetched once, then conversion runs in your browser.

Common errorsAnd how to fix them

The rate differs from what my bank charged

Cause: This is the ECB mid-market reference rate. Your bank applies a spread to it, and possibly a separate fee, so the rate you receive is always less favourable.

Fix: Use this figure as a benchmark and compare it against the total your provider quoted to see the real cost of the conversion. A two to four percent gap is normal for a bank; substantially more suggests a poor deal.

The rate has not changed since yesterday

Cause: ECB reference rates are published once per banking day. At weekends, on public holidays, and before the daily fix, the most recent published rate is the current one.

Fix: Expect daily rather than live granularity. For a rate that moves intraday — trading, or a large transfer timed to the market — use a real-time feed from a broker instead.

A currency is missing from the list

Cause: The ECB publishes reference rates for a defined set of currencies. Currencies outside that set, and pegged or restricted currencies, are not covered.

Fix: For an unlisted currency, convert via a major currency if it is pegged to one, or use a provider that quotes it directly. Be cautious with currencies subject to capital controls, where an official rate and the rate available in practice can diverge sharply.

Frequently asked questionsCommon questions answered

These answers explain common currency converter tasks, expected input formats, and edge cases so both visitors and search engines can understand what this tool does.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Rates are sourced from Open Exchange Rates, updated hourly. They closely track live interbank rates and are more accurate than daily reference rates.

How accurate are the exchange rates?

Rates are sourced from Open Exchange Rates and updated hourly, so they closely match what you see on Google Finance. Small differences of a few paise or cents are normal due to bid/ask spreads. For a financial transaction, always confirm with your bank or exchange.

Which currencies are supported?

The tool supports 30+ major world currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, CNY, AUD, CAD, CHF, and more covering the Americas, Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Does this tool send my data to a server?

Only the exchange rate fetch is made to retrieve the latest rates. Your amount and currency selections stay entirely in your browser and are never logged or stored.
